Creative Writing Summer Camps 2024:

Session 1
Creative Elements

Earth. Air. Fire. Water. Join us to unlock the power of creativity and the elements through writing, play and art. We’ll read poetry, write our own stories, and connect to our creative elemental selves. Each day we will write, share in small and large groups, play games, craft and eat snacks, all the while interweaving storytelling and adventure.

Come unlock the gifts of each element.  Come unlock your own gifts.  Find your own elemental power.

Where: Women Writing for (a) Change, 318 S Washington St

Session 2
Story Art

Story telling is an ancient craft, with many forms and styles. Join us this summer to create stories through art and words, through crafts and play, through paintings and prompts. Young storytellers will have days full of inspiration for their creative endeavors. Through fastwrites, small and large group sharing, through collaging and crafting, these storytellers will weave tales to entertain generations to come.

More about our summer camps:

Our creative writing camps inspire creativity and provide a safe space for writers to find their individual voices. Trained camp facilitators plan age-appropriate activities.  Writing prompts and other activities are designed to inspire not only the most passionate of writers but also those who may come more hesitantly to the page.

Participants of all experience levels are welcome. Again and again, new participants come to our circles insisting that they’re not “real” or serious writers—and leave not only with full notebooks but a deeper understanding of the importance of their words.

While creative writing is the focus of our camps, our processes help participants gain the courage to share their writing and their voices. Facilitators create inclusive environments, not only during planned activities but breaks and lunch as well.  By learning and practicing how to give supportive feedback, and become better listeners, our summer camp encourages youth from all walks of life to feel welcome and become part of a community.  We feel it is imperative that our writing camps nurture our campers as emerging writers and more empowered young people.

At Young Women Writing for (a) Change young writers can be themselves, find their voices, and share who they are and who they want to be. Our weeklong summer camps are a wonderful way for youth to spend time with new friends, play with words, and have their art and voice encouraged and supported.
