“I know, my daughter, and yet, if only Moses leaves a record, who will know of your struggle, your duties, your strength, how you made freedom possible?”

          “Moses will write of it.”

“Will he? I know what Moses writes of you my child. Shall I tell you?”   Scriptural Invention  ~  Sharon Hatton

Who will speak for the women? Only women can speak for women and I don’t presume that I can speak for all women. Each of our own experiences unique, yet we have all felt the deadly sting of the patriarchy. For me, Women Writing for (a) Change has asked the question, “who will speak for the women?” I knew what the answer should be. It should be women speaking for women, not the freaking Moseses of the world.

I knew the answer but had no solid ground from which to launch my words.  No place where they would be heard before they would dry up in the arid winds of the desert,  or be swatted away by Moses like a pesky mosquito.

I want my words to be heard, to be taken into hearts and brains, to linger in those smart tender places. When I think of all the words I’ve heard in the last fourteen years with Women Writing, I see a long golden tensile chain linking us all together. It is unbreakable.
